Prior to working at Docusign, I can sheepishly admit that I was one of those people adverse to change. It’s natural to veer away from uncertainty and to fear the unknown. We all want to feel in control, right? Particularly when it comes to careers. But what if a dive into the unknown ends up being the best thing you’ve ever done?
This is my story. A leap from what I’d always known into an industry I’d never worked in before. I’ve never looked back – and I put it down to the incredible pace of working at a place like Docusign.
Huge opportunities for growth
When I made the decision to move into the wonderful world of tech a few years ago, I could hardly imagine what awaited me. Upon joining Docusign, I quickly realized that I had made the best decision of my career.
Docusign moves at a thousand miles an hour. Its processes and systems are constantly evolving – always for the better. Almost daily, procedures are refined and revenue keeps skyrocketing. In this fast-paced environment, there is never time to get bored or feel unfulfilled.
What’s more – and perhaps more importantly for anyone interested in extending themselves and advancing their career – a fast-paced, high-growth company like Docusign throws up exceptional opportunities around every corner. It’s very clear to me that the skills and knowledge I am acquiring at Docusign would not have been acquired had I stayed with an already-mature business. Being part of the company’s growth journey means that I am growing, too.
Exploring new avenues
Docusign has consistently achieved 60% year-on-year growth in staff numbers over the past few years. This is huge, equating to an enormous number of brand-new jobs. In fact, brand-new divisions pop up all the time.
To fill all of these new roles, internal promotions are heavily encouraged throughout the business. So are sideways moves, giving our employees invaluable opportunities to try their hand in a different area. For example, you might move from marketing to sales, or from sales to a technical role. And you make the move knowing that you’re 100% supported, every step of the way.
Opportunities like this don’t present themselves often. As Sheryl Sandberg once said, “If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask which seat, just get on.” I think this rings particularly true in the professional world. Sheryl went on to say, “If you wait because you are thinking about what seat you’ll have or whether they are serving food, you will miss the ship!”
My recommendation? Jump on that ship. If the opportunity to join a high-growth company like Docusign presents itself, don’t hesitate – there’s a great chance that it could also be the best decision of your career!
