DocuSign + itsme®
Qualified Electronic Signatures with DocuSign and itsme® in Belgium and The Netherlands
Electronic signatures are widely accepted in Europe for most transactions. Additionally, some important agreements require the highest level of electronic signature—a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES).
Under eIDAS - the European regulation governing electronic signatures, a QES includes a qualified certificate, issued by a Qualified Trust Service provider on the EU Trust List. It attests to the authenticity of an electronic signature and serves as proof of the identity of the signer.
itsme® is a leading qualified electronic signature trust service provider in Europe. Today, over 6.4 million people already use itsme® for their digital identity services. And itsme® now integrates with DocuSign eSignature to offer a faster, better way to conduct business that is completely digital, reliable, safe and that meets the highest EU-wide electronic signature standards for organisations operating in Belgium and The Netherlands.

In Belgium, a Qualified Electronic signature is required for:
- Employment contracts (Article 3bis of the Employment Contracts Act of 3 July 1978)
- Certain corporate documents, such as assignment of nominative shares, stocks or bonds when recorded or relevant registries (Article 504, Belgium Company Code)
- Tax returns and applications, filed with public authorities – Consumer credit contracts – Property leases
In The Netherlands, QES may be more appropriate when dealing with transactions that are “complex,” and thus would benefit from greater reliability and security.
